The template has an easy-to-grip handle and has gripping pads made of a special material on its underside. The handle allows you to comfortably hold and place the template where you need the hole to be. Together the handle and gripping pads allow you to securely hold the template in place entirely by hand to cut holes! The handle allows you to hold and tension the template against the material which causes the gripping pads to be compressed. The compressed gripping pads generate friction. The friction generated by the gripping pads, together with you holding the handle, are what make the template stay securely in place while cutting the hole.
And it is because that you can hold the template in place by hand that you can also entirely cut the hole with one cut. Once you have cut all the way around the template's pattern and reached its end you simply decrease your tension on the template to the point that you can move the template and saw together as unit in order to finish cutting the hole.
The template can also be held in place with a single screw and comes with a hole in the center of its pattern for this purpose. Attaching it with a screw is very helpful when you're trying to cut in an awkward position. And to finish cutting the hole all you have to do is cut all the way around the pattern to its end, remove the saw, rotate the template 180°, and then finish cutting the hole. The cutout plug will come out with the template and you can then remove the screw and dispose of the plug.
With it you can easily and safely cut holes in materials that have finished surfaces (like painted and textured walls and ceilings, paneling, cabinets, ceiling tiles, etc.) without damaging the finish and having to make repairs. It shields and protects the finished area surrounding the hole and prevents the saw's guide foot from rubbing against the finish so that it doesn't get scratched or scuffed. And with it you can easily and safely cut holes in ceiling tiles without breaking them.
With it you do not have to trace an outline for the hole onto the material in order to cut the hole. A single mark for any one of the hole's corners is all that's needed to correctly position the template for cutting. And it has a built-in level so that you can quickly and accurately align it so your holes will never be crooked.
