It works with all major brands of spiral saws and rotary tools. It precisely guides the saw for you. It sets the exact path the saw cuts along so that the hole you're cutting will be the perfect shape and size every time. Because the template guides the saw and sets the pattern it cuts your holes are guaranteed to always be right and you can cut holes with it as fast as the saw is able to cut the material. It provides you a perfectly flat, smooth, and stable surface against which to move the saw while cutting. And it even cuts small notches so that the screws won't hit the material when you install the switch.
The template holds and stays securely in place where you need to cut the hole with two screws. The template has two built-in holes for inserting the screws through it. These holes are located on the template so that the screws will insert into what will become your cutout plug.
Because the template holds in place with screws, in order to completely cut the hole you have to make two cuts. To completely cut the hole you first cut all the way around the pattern to its end, shut off the saw, and pull it out. You then unscrew the template, rotate it 180°, put it back in place, and re-insert the screws into the holes you've already made in the material. You then finish cutting the hole. The cutout plug comes out with the template which you then unscrew and dispose of. Depending of the material you're cutting and with the help of a power screwdriver, you can usually make both cuts with the template in about 1 to 1 ½ minutes.

With it you can easily and safely cut holes in materials that have finished surfaces (like painted and textured walls and ceilings, cabinets, etc.) without damaging the finish and having to make repairs. It shields and protects the finished area surrounding the hole and prevents the saw's guide foot from rubbing against the finish so that it doesn't get scratched or scuffed.
With it you do not have to trace an outline for the hole onto the material in order to cut the hole. A single mark for any one of the hole's corners is all that's needed to correctly position the template for cutting.
